Lot 4080 "UPPER CANADA" MILITIA ISSUED COLT MODEL 1851 NAVY

REVOLVER. Cal. 36. S# 33062. In 1855 the Canadian government was reorganizing their militia and ordered 800 Colt navies along with Enfield muskets, carbines, and cavalry sabers all from the British government who supplied London made Colt navies. They were issued by company either in Upper Canada or Lower Canada being stamped in grips designated by either "LC" or "UC", Company letter, and issue number, this revolver was pistol #4 in company "L" of Upper Canada militia. Ontario is now the name of the province of Upper Canada. Revolver is standard configuration model 1851, 7.5" octagonal barrel, 1-line Colt London address, British proofed barrel and cylinder, Iron trigger guard and back strap. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 1981 letter from the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa stating their records show this revolver was one of forty-seven issued to "L" troop which applies to "London" troop. CONDITION: very good, all matching except cylinder which is 34811, no finish but sharp edges and markings including good cylinder scene. Mechanics are fine, cylinder missing one nipple, shiny bright rifled bore. PROVENANCE: Paul S.
